Kurt Black Bio

Kurt Black has been involved in running since he was a wee lad. Taken to a road race at the age of 12 by his older brother, he fell in love with the sport and has been involved in one aspect or another since that time. After his family moved to Oregon, his track coach helped to foster his love of running by taking him to watch the NCAA Championships and Prefontaine Classic. Little did he know he would be able to run in both one day. Kurt won two state championships while at Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah. After barely graduating from high school, Kurt attended Weber State University on a scholarship that his coach said was good enough. While at Weber, Kurt became a three-time All-American and was on the 4th place team in the NCAA Cross-Country Championships. After graduating from college Kurt placed 4th at the 1993 USA Track and Field Championships in the steeplechase, becoming an alternate for the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. After being selected for several national teams and then enduring a host of injuries, Kurt decided to enter the professional world. He has worked in various positions of marketing and advertising for several nationally known brands and agencies. When he isn’t timing races, Kurt works as an Account Director at Datamark, a direct response agency located in Salt Lake City, Utah.
